    The Crew

Just some salon fun in the video above. I felt like sharing. LOL

    About my Salon

In my salon I have five stylists. Three of them are my employees. The other two are independent contractors. This means that they rent their stations from me and they come in with their own clientele.
There’s not really any distinction between the stylists other than their employment status. We are basically like the family. We’re with each other day in and day out. We see each other on our good days and bad days and when we’re grumpy and when we’re happy.

The girls all have their strengths and their weaknesses and jobs they like to do more than other jobs.
For example, Amy is our resident waxing technician. She really likes to do that and she will take all of the customers and do their waxing work, regardless of whose client they are officially. This works out just fine because the rest of us don’t like waxing very much.

    The Staff

Amanda is an all-star with teenagers. They seem to love her. I think it’s probably because she looks like a teenager herself. She’s very high-energy and she has a trendy haircut she usually dyes all different colors of the rainbow. She can talk to kids like they are best friends. This usually results in a good haircut.

Julie Is a very stable and calm stylist. Some of the older ladies like her best.

Anna marches to the beat of her own drummer. I have never really been able to figure out what she most likes to do. She will complain about doing a particular service on one day, and then the next day says how much she enjoys it.

Anna is a very good colorist. If any of my other stylists have a client with a difficult hair color issue, I will assign them to Anna. She can make all things new.

I had a mom call me one time with a teenage son who had dyed his hair blue. He had used drugstore dye and it was blue for one day and then after that turned green. He was morose and depressed about his green hair. She brought him in and Anna took one look at him and knew exactly what to do.

She sat the kid down and began a bleaching process that took two hours but got the green dye out of the hair. The kid and his mom walked out elated and Anna was a hero.

I have my own set of clients and these are people that have been with me forever and ever. I really don’t look for new clients anymore because I have my schedule full with all of my regulars.

So that’s our little crew. All of the girls know how to do all the basic services: cuts, blowdries, colors, weaves, highlights. They have to know it all in case we have a rush of walk-ins, and they have to take someone in one of their scheduling gaps.

They’re all pretty good about pitching in with some of the menial tasks like sweeping the floor or washing the client coffee cups. The salon cleaning I have done once a week by someone who comes in. I figured I can splurge on that and then none of us have to worry about dusting and toilet cleaning and the like.

Next time I’ll review some products and maybe throw in a client story.
    Later!
